Could a Trump presidency actually be a blessing in disguise for activism? In the short span he has been in office, there has been a spike in protests throughout the country with the women’s march the day after Trump’s inauguration being of historical proportions.
Hillary in office would have continued the “sleight of hand” approach promising “incremental” change so she could continue using the same warmongering, pay to play policies that have been handed down throughout our government and making them rich for far too long.
Our citizens are beginning to realize that both parties have the same central goal: to line their pockets with as much as they can. We now have people from all ideologies coming to the realization that our government no longer represents us, they represent whichever corporation that buys them.
Trump and Hillary are actually far more alike than people realize, the big difference between them is that Trump hasn’t been in the political game long and doesn’t know all the dos and don’ts just yet while Hillary is a seasoned politician with her “public and private policies”.
Donald Trump will no doubt effect a lot of people in our country negatively, but it just might be the push we needed to take back our country from the billionaires who have been bleeding us dry for ages, for the silent majority to wake up and fight back and become activists. We have the water protectors still standing up for our right to clean water in North Dakota, people standing up against the growing neo-nazi movement known as the “Alt Right” across the nation, and our scientists planning on marching against this environmental disastrous administration all within the first couple weeks since Trump was inaugurated.
This will be a hard four years for us, but I believe that along the way, many people will wake up and see that the only way to have our government work for us, is to stand together and give them no other option. As long as we have freedom of speech, our voices can be heard if you’re willing to speak up.
